As a self-confessed #cruiseaddict and an aspiring world traveller, I will be the first to admit when start planning a trip I am usually looking to flee the country. Ok, maybe flee is a tad dramatic but definitely fly away. Preferably to a place where I can then sail away. Sometimes I forget how much I love a good road trip. How easy it is to just pack up for the weekend and go. How quick it can be to plan. Don't get me wrong, I live for researching and planning all things travel. Usually, I am planning at least 3 ahead. There is something about the simplicity of road-tripping that appeals to me.
We decided to go to Harrison Hot Springs for my brother-in-laws birthday in June. It was a no brainer to plan. We booked our favourite resort on the lake. The only resort to stay at in Harrison, if you ask me. All that was left was to pack and go. It is about a 3.5 hour drive from where we live.
Our first stop on the road was at Doug's Homestead. Apparently, this is the place for meat lovers. Anytime we are coast bound or coming home, it is a must stop. I hear the pepperoni and beef jerky are to die for. That is what our men say and I will just have to take their word on it. If you can guess exactly how much your pepperoni will cost you get it free. Plus, you get to write your name on the Wall of Fame. Scott came super close but he'll have to try again next time for the win.
Manning Park is one of my favourite places along the drive back. We didn't actually stop here this time other than to take this picture of the east gate. I was going to link to a previous post about the place but it seems it has disappeared so I may have to blog about it later for you.
Our arrival in Harrison Hot Springs was met with the same good weather we enjoyed on the drive down. Which is awesome. BC weather seems to be a bit more bi-polar this year than usual. The resort we are staying at is actually the one in the distance with the green roof. I just loved this shot of the street.Black Forest Restaurant. It was fabulous, as always.
I am even going to pretend I don't remember that almost every single one of us came back with a nasty 3 day stomach flu. The only thing I want to say about that is that that I am thankful we didn't get sick till after the drive back.
Do you have a favourite local getaway spot?

Which leads me here for a Find Beauty Friday. I have lofty hopes that this could be a thing around here. Something simple and beautiful. Today we I am sharing a moment from earlier in the week that bought beauty to an otherwise mundane Wednesday. An after dinner walk that restored my soul and gave me the motivation and recharge that I needed for the rest of the week.
I don't know if I have ever told you this before but I have a thing for water. It might be a secret or I possibly might have mentioned it a time or two. Anyone who has seen my Insta feed MAY have noticed. Hard to say. cough cough Doesn't matter what the source is. Could be a stream, creek, lake or of course the ocean. Even a good puddle will put a smile on my face. There is just something about it that calms my soul, centers me.
It is no wonder that I find myself living in this little piece paradise. A small town full of orchards and wineries situated between two gorgeous lakes. Sometimes I miss the big city life and then I stroll down to the beach, dip my toes in the water and swear I will never leave again.
Where did you find beauty this week? Was it in any unexpected places?

This little blog of mine has opened up so many doors and has made it possible for me to make some amazing connections. I have met such an amazing group people through blogging. Some that I have come so close to it is hard to imagine that we have never actually met because they live across the globe somewhere. When the line between online and the real world blurs or it even seems to become erased because that which started online has become a part of real life. It is so precious.
It seems like this year has gone by so fast and I have hardly blogged at all. It feels wrong almost to even call myself a blogger right now. Since I am pretty sure you have to actually blog to be a blogger. There must be some rule about that? Yes, that it what I thought. There are so many things I would love to have the time to share with you. I thought maybe I could tell you about some the things I would love to share with you. Maybe that would help to get me on the path to actually do so.
So If I was a blogger...
I would tell you all this was motivated by the fact that I had to renew my blog domain recently. I mean, I couldn't not renew it right? That would of been terrible. Which also reminded me how much I miss you all and this space.
I would tell you about our weekend road trip to Harrison Hot Springs.
I would tell you all about my upcoming holidays at the end of July and all the drama that has brought.
I would tell you about all the books I have read.
I would tell you about all the movies I has seen.
I would tell you the next two cruises we are planning.
I would tell you all about my constant desire to get to Disneyland this year.
I would tell you about the big life change I made recently.
I would tell you about all things wine.
I would tell you about this amazing city that never ceases to amaze me with her beauty. If you follow me on Instagram or Snapchat you probably could of guessed about this.
I would tell about all my air conditioning or lack thereof woes. Wait maybe you don't want to hear me complain? Except I know you would listen because we support each other like that.
I would tell you all about my Outlander obsession. Ok, I know you probably already knew that but we could still chat about it.
I would tell you about all things I am obsessing over this summer. I might even confess to having an out of control addiction to freezies. See lack of air-conditioning comment above.
And finally, I would get around to finally telling you all about my last cruise. Yikes, that is a blogging fail.
If I was a blogger, there would be so much that we could chat about over cup of coffee, a bottle of wine and a blog. I am good with with either drink so I would even let you choose. I would look forward to it so much and I hope you would too.

I have even been neglecting my social media more than I would like. Except Snapchat for some reason. I guess, it is just so effortless to use. I love that it is just life - unedited. So easy for a girl that doesn't have time to edit this and that to post a little something.
What have I been up to otherwise? Not a heck of a lot. Work. Gym. Walking.
Reading has also been taking up a fair bit of my time. Most recently, I have re-read through the first 4 Harry Potter books and I am now almost done The Bitter Season by Tami Hoag. Who by the way is pretty much my all time favourite author.
I am currently a couple of episodes into the last season of Downton Abbey with my sister. I will be so sad when we are done!
Waiting on the edge of my seat for the Outlander Season Two premiere in April. I am also now listening to The Fiery Cross book 5. It was finding that it was just taking me so long to get through them so I decided to try it on audiobook. I do a lot of walking so I just listen to it when I am doing that and I have found it is going along quite smoothly now. I am really enjoying it. I did the same thing when I read the first Game of Thrones book.
I also can't wait to see Allegiant. I have mixed feelings about the book but I am still looking forward to seeing the movie.
We booked a second cruise for 2017 with Princess Cruises. We haven't cruised Princess since our first cruise 7 years ago but we thought we would give it another try. I will fill you in on the details soon. I think it is sort of silly that we have two vacations booked for 2017 and nothing for this year yet. We have some plans in the works but haven't nailed anything it down yet.
I finally tried the new Crush from Apothic. That is some damn good wine. I actually ended up trying their Dark as well in the process of looking for the Crush. Divine! I am not even sure which is better. I will have to do some more sampling of both of them and let know. Now I just have to try the White which I am convinced will be amazing since all three reds are winners in my book.
Speaking of wine, I am so excited because wine touring season around is really starting to open up! I can't wait to get out to ALL of those wineries. Yes, every single one of the 200 and something wineries we have in the area. A girl can dream, right? I will definitely do my best at ticking them off the list AND documenting it for you.
I think this about sums up what I have been up to while I was lost in a non-blogging season of life. Fingers crossed I will eventually get a hang of life and balance it all to better fit this amazing little community in a little more on the regular. Miss you all! Can't wait to hear from you!
